Great comment, but the ombudsman in me wants to point out The Dick Van Dyke Show focused on Rob Petrie writing for the Allen Brady Show (a fictional skit comedy show). Bewitch was a show that had a lead character (Darren Stevens) working for an advertising agency. Mary Tyler Moore played Mary Richards who was a producer for the 6:00 news at a local Minnesota station.

I totally agree! one of the best (if not THE best) said that there are three types of patients ...

There are those who do not want to know specifically what is wrong with them, euphemisims are preferable. They do what is requested, trust the doctor implicitly, and are very "low maintenance: except that they are disassociated from their conditions.

There are those that trust and do as requested, but ask questions like "Is this medication necessary? Potential side-effects? Other alternatives.

THEN there are the ones like ... me. When I first saw him it was for my fibromyalgia. I am not a hypochondriac and do not spend all my time reading med journals (or psych ones either, now that I've retired). I am the sort of patient that wants specific terminology and accurate translations if necessary ... etimology of the word, too (which can give interesting hints). The kind of patient who looks for med and treatment trials that might prove helpful ... a 100% team player in my wellness. fortunately, he hadn't a "God-complex" and preferred that type of patient!

The "cattle call" of patients during staff meetings DOES happen (and is becomming more frequent ... AND can be requested by the patient (just as second opinions can), Some doctors feel (mostly unjustifiably) threatened by this, in case a collegue has differing ideas, but it is an EXCELLENT theraputic tool. It also allows a patient to find a physician with whom they may better "click." Its not at all just about their credentials, but about finding a physician (in ANY branch of medicine) with whom you can really open up and talk about even the most scary-personal things that are happening i your life. Its amazing how many that are seemingly non-medical may actually be having a PROFOUND effect upon your physical, emotional, mentaland spiritual life. Group settings are good for this mind-body connection. I recommend them.
